Many artists draw inspiration from the nature and culture of Seogwipo.
Lee Jung-seop, a leading figure in 20th-century Korean modern art, created numerous works of arts during the year that he lived in Seogwipo as he and his family took refuge from the Korean War on Jeju Island. The Lee Jung-seop Art Museum, and the artist’s former residence, allow visitors to not only admire his artwork, but also to catch glimpses of his everyday life during this period: the joy of time spent with his family, as well as his longing for them, interwoven with the stunning natural vistas of Jeju through his art. Painter Lee Wal-jong has been capturing the landscape of Seogwipo and life on the island on canvas for 20 years, focusing on “The Middle Way of Life in Jeju.” In 2013, he opened the Walart Museum near picturesque Jeongbang Waterfall, displaying his work to a wider audience.

From now until October 19, the Jeju Museum of Art is hosting an exhibition from a master of 20th-century graphic art, titled "Marc Chagall: Singing Illusions and Colors."Additionally, the last week of every month, Seogwipo plays host to a variety of cultural and artistic programs, such as street performances and exhibitions, as part of the “2025 Culture Day – Bringing Culture Everywhere” initiative.

Summer in Jeju: natural spring water vs ports… which will you pick?
When you think of summer in Jeju, the sparkling emerald sea is likely the first thing that comes to mind. But beyond the beaches, there’s more fun to be had in the water this summer in Jeju’s refreshing pools of natural spring water, and at ports across the island.
Natural springs are perfect for some family-friendly fun. The cold, clear water from deep underground offers a natural way to beat the heat for everyone from children to seniors. With most pools containing shallow areas ideal for kids, just dipping your feet into the refreshing spring water will instantly have you feeling as if you’ve escaped the scorching summer heat. Locals often frequent these spots to cool off in the pure, chilly waters.

Jeju’s ports are another great option for seaside fun, with shallow, calm waters that are ideal for snorkeling. Dive in and be amazed by the breathtaking underwater views. If you're not great at swimming, then simply float on the sea on a paddleboard or tube instead.
A recent poll for both locals and tourists showed a near-even split between those who prefer natural springs and those who prefer ports, demonstrating that summer in Jeju truly has something for everyone. This summer, move beyond the beaches and enjoy the waters of Jeju in your own way.

※ Please note: Ports do not have permanent safety personnel, and diving is prohibited. Please be cautious to prevent accidents.
