<A Walk in a Jeju Village - Summer Edition> introduces you to “Sehwa-ri” in Gujwa-eup, a village on the east of Jeju, in two parts. Following the first part of the tour of restaurants where you can taste the sea, the oreum volcanic cones, and seasonal food, this time, we are going to visit small and charming workshops that operate one-day classes and a late-night restaurant & café where you can enjoy summer nights to survive the tropical nights. Why don't you enjoy a truly meaningful break this summer at Sehwa-ri, where you can slowly walk around the neighborhood, enjoy nature, eat delicious food, and take pleasure in various experiences?

We looked through the nooks and crannies of Sehwa-ri with Village PD Yang Gunmo of the Jilgeuraengi Tourist Center. In the map, we added sights to see in the summer, activities to enjoy, and places to eat. A description of each spot is continued below.
Everyone has at least one experience of plans going amiss during a trip because of the weather. Especially in summer, when the temperatures rise by 30 degrees or heavy rain occurs, making outdoor activities difficult. How about spending the day doing a one-day class that you can enjoy indoors? In Sehwa-ri, where there are many general stores and workshops, you can choose an experience that suits your taste. You can find new hobbies and make your own souvenirs, thus killing two birds with one stone. Even in bad weather, you can have good memories of your trip.
① Akojeju: A place that sells various miscellaneous goods made of fabric, rattan, etc. along with ceramic accessories. In a separate workshop, it offers a pottery class in which small items, such as magnets and business card holders are made, or completing their own plates and cups by drawing pictures on unglazed objects. It takes about two hours, and the result can be received through a delivery service after two weeks. They are currently taking a break from class, so if you want to make a reservation, please call and visit. (010-5097-2177)
② Organic Jeju: A place where you can make various kinds of candles, such as handmade soaps and sea gel candles, flower soy candles, and diffusers using natural ingredients such as scoria (volcanic clay), citrus peels, and wormwood with the owner who has 10 years of experience. The beautifully packaged finished products are perfect for gifts. One-day class inquiries can be made through Instagram (@organicjeju_soap) DM, and since it is operated as a workshop and café, it is nice to spend time enjoying the delicious drinks and desserts.
③ Wooasoo Workshop: At the Wooasoo Workshop, where it collects the beautiful moments met by chance, two classes are in progress: wood carving to make rings by cutting wood chips, and fabric eco-bags with a sewing machine. The wooden ring class is particularly popular with couples. Depending on the color, pattern, and shape of the tree, you can create the only ring with each individual’s unique characteristics. The workshop is usually open only when there is a class, so you can visit and book a class through Instagram (@wooasoo, @wooasoo_bag) DM at least one day in advance.
④ Midnight Jeju: A flower shop that opened in front of Sehwa Sea in March this year. You often visit the beach to take pretty pictures, but buying flowers for no reason will probably remain a special memory when traveling. If you order 2 - 3 days in advance, you can make flowers of your choice, and the one-day class is divided into centerpieces and hand-ties by days of the week, so please check the schedule carefully and sign up for the class you want. No matter how tired you are during a trip, it sometimes feels sad to go to bed so early. In that case, when the heat during the day disappears and the wind becomes cool, go out for a drink in the neighborhood. Taking a walk on the beach or having a fun chat at restaurants and cafés that are open until late will help you hold onto the shorter summer night a bit longer.
Late-night restaurant “Dalgodong” is a space that feels like a hideout. With old furniture and game machines, comfortable hardwood floors, and a cute cat, it feels like visiting a close friend's house. It is a place where the menu for food and snacks include curry egg rolls, brisket bean sprouts, maralongsha, and beef bone broth that are prepared and changed every three months. It is usually open from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m., but it is better to check the exact opening hours by phone immediately before visiting. Take out is also possible, so it would be good to soothe hunger at your accommodation late at night.

If you are uncomfortable with late meals, you should visit the late-night café “Soil-eating Cat” where you can enjoy a variety of drinks, homemade cakes, and desserts such as macarons. As the café name suggests, the signature menu is “Soil Coffee” (cream coffee with black sesame), and two cute cats reside in this place. The business hours are from noon to midnight, and the schedule of the late-night bar on Saturday nights, which is being prepared this year, will be announced through Instagram (@eatingcat737). This is an event that you can only enjoy in the summer, so don't miss it.
“Bellongjang,” which opens for only two hours in the morning on Saturdays, also operates at different times from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the summer. As it is a relatively large market selling various handicrafts and food, it is currently closed to prevent crowds of visitors. It is usually held in front of Sehwapo-gu, but you can check the exact location and schedule on Instagram (@bellongjang).
