Take a bite of an éclair while listening to French radioThe Tasteful <French-style Bakery Jeju Sagyelee>
불란서식과자점사계리

Do you know what it feels like to eat an éclair while listening to music streaming from a French radio? For that moment at least, you'll feel like you're in Paris. French-style Bakery Jeju Sagyelee, a café specializing in French desserts, opened two years ago. It is run by a couple who learned to bake from a pâtissier at Le Cordon Bleu, in France. They renovated a family house, which feels comfy and cozy because they are settled in Sagyelee, the wife's hometown. The eye-catching European-style props throughout the café make the place enjoyable. Above all, the place is unique in that you can sit and relax while listening to French radio broadcasting in real-time.

They use organic wheat flour and French butter to make all their desserts, and the most popular menu here is the quiche and Hojicha Éclair, made by double roasting Jeju green tea. Also, Hallabong choux made with original Jeju ingredients is unique.

There is a fabric accessory shop outside the bakery café, which is great for looking around and taking in the warm autumn sunlight while enjoying some tea and dessert at a table in the outside garden. The café may close earlier than regular business hours if it runs out of dessert for the day, so you should check Instagram for holidays and opening hours. Please note that the public parking lot by the nearby shops is about 20m away.

I can't believe you're standing in line at a bread factory!Renowned Bread Factory <Just Bread>

This is a bread factory where you can buy and eat bread conveniently in this contactless era. “Just Bread,” located in Susan-ri, Seongsan-eup, does not have any tables inside, so you can only buy their bread for takeout. However, there are many tables outside where you can eat the bread you have purchased. The building itself is large since it is a factory where they make a lot of bread, but the store is small, so only a limited number of people can enter the building, sequentially after lining up.

The baker of Just Bread moved to the island after operating a bakery for 10 years in Apgujeong-dong in Seoul, then in Seogwipo for 5 years, and has now opened his own bread business in Jeju this year. They initially tried to build a bread factory to supply Jeju Island and sell to a small number of customers, but word of mouth caused many customers to stop by to buy bread.

Various types of bread loaves, ciabatta, and croissants await the customers' touch, and cheese and salami are also sold separately. The most popular is the walnut potato bread. The three elements that captivate the customers' taste buds: the lightness of the potatoes, the flavor of the butter, and the savory flavor of walnuts.

Just Bread serves a bread buffet on Saturdays and Sundays, and for the price of KRW 4,000, you can fill up a bag full of any bread you wish to eat. The bakery opens at 10:30 a.m. and ends when the bread runs out, but it is good to note that a lot of bread is often sold out while making reservations on the application.

Hanok (traditional Korean-style house), spacious garden, sea view, and bread<Mippeun Bakery>, a Place for Children to Run Around
미쁜제과

A 150-pyeong (495.8m2) bakery café in a spacious garden of 2,000 pyeong (6,611.5m2) in size. The café opened two years ago, and it is located in a remote place in Daejeong, Seogwipo. However, it has become known to people who enjoy taking unique pictures because it is a huge hanok building, like a palace. Thanks to the interior style full of oriental sentiment, it feels somewhat comfortable. It is especially popular among people who prefer sitting on the floor because it has seats decorated like Daecheong Maru, the Korean traditional wooden floor.

The most popular items on the menu are addictive-tasting bread made by combining cheese, corn, and Jeju onions as well as Manon Baguette using Jeju garlic. Salt bread with unsalted butter added to bread ripened at a low temperature for 24 hours is also popular for its chewy texture. They make their bread using organic wheat flour, butter, and original Jeju ingredients, and you can enjoy them with a variety of beverages, including coffee.

There are great places to take pictures, such as the gazebo set in the sea and trees with swings attached to them. Since it has a large garden, there are many children running around, so it is suitable to spend time with them. There is a stream running across the garden, a pond and small bridge, a fountain, and neolttwigi, the Korean jumping game similar to a see-saw, for everyone to enjoy. Since it is located in the west of Jeju, if you visit close to sunset, you may have a chance to see the beautiful evening glow.

Slowly but with honesty, one layer after another<Layers' Bakehouse> with All its Heart and Soul
레이어스베이크하우스

This hot bakery opened in January of this year and is located near Gwandeokjeong Pavilion, in downtown Jeju. It was named “Layer’s Bakehouse” with the hope and desire to build up their own skills just as each layer of baked bread is carefully stacked. As the name suggests, the main menu here is pastries. The pâtissier graduated from the hotel's culinary department, gained about three years of experience in the bakery part of Terarosa in Yangpyeong and Jeju, and then entered the Le Cordon Bleu course at Sookmyung Women's University to learn more about bread. Although it is a small bakery that is made and operated alone, it makes high-quality bread with the goal of being slow but honest.

The signature menu of Layer’s Bakehouse is the croissant made with Jeju whole wheat. It uses good ingredients such as organic wheat flour, non-antibiotic eggs, and gourmet butter from Europe. The bread is made by using ingredients grown in Jeju as much as possible, such as using whole wheat cultivated and ground in Cheongsu-ri.

There is a section called “Today's Bread” at this café, where it presents different types of bread each week, which is a kind of pâtissier’s experimental stage. There is an effort to give people the joy of discovering delicious bread by researching and making various types of bread, avoiding making the same bland type of bread. Bread is only available for takeout, and those who want a drink can choose from two types of coffee: Caffè Americano or Caffè Latte.
