Located on the eastern side of Jeju, the name Woljeong-ri means “a place where the moon stays;” this sentiment is reflected in the poetic scenery of the village itself, with the moonlight shimmering above the emerald ocean creating a landscape reminiscent of a painting. The gorgeous scenery of picturesque Woljeong-ri Beach is enjoyable enough on its own, and the shallow water makes it safe to swim in, ideal for families with children.

As word of Woljeong-ri’s beauty has spread among travelers, more and more visitors have begun to flock to the beach, resulting in numerous restaurants, cafés, and lodgings popping up in the surrounding area. Many of these cafés position their chairs to allow patrons to look out at the ocean; photos taken sitting in these types of seats have gone viral online, transforming them into popular photo spots. It’s now common to see visitors taking pictures here to capture some authentic Jeju memories.

Others enjoy engaging in more dynamic pursuits, with water sports such as surfing, snorkeling, and kayaking. The beach enjoys constant waves of relatively consistent height, making it an ideal spot for surfing that attracts surfers year-round.

Because of this, many shops now offer surfing equipment rentals and lessons, making it easy for even beginners or those without gear to enjoy riding the waves.

Woljeong-ri Beach is also part of Jeju Olle Trail Route 20 (“Gimnyeong–Hado Olle”) and the “Gimnyeong–Woljeong Geotrail,” making it a perfect waypoint for hikers to take a brief rest while enjoying the refreshing sea breeze and scenic ocean view.
