Get Your Adrenaline PumpingWater Sports on Jeju

As an island almost as famous for its wind as its beaches, Jeju is an excellent place to try your hand at various water sports. The activities on this list can all be done by complete beginners, yet are sure to get the adrenaline pumping of even the biggest thrill seekers.

Stand Up Paddle with Jeju SUP Surfing Club

Stand up paddle is one of the lesser-known activities on this list. However, it is a perfect activity for those who don’t have much experience with water sports but want to try one out. The boards used in stand up paddle are much wider than surfboards. Riders stand on them and use a paddle to move through the water. The large surface area of the board means the sport is much easier to get the hang of than surfing, and most people will have no issues standing up during their first lesson. Even if you can’t stand up, you can still have fun by kneeling on the board and paddling. That doesn’t mean it is easy. If you want to push your limits, stand up paddle can be a good workout for your core and upper body. Jeju SUP Surfing Club is a great spot to try the sport. The club uses qualified instructors and offers classes in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. They also have a giant stand-up paddleboard that can hold up to eight people at once. The club operates out of Samyang, which is a short drive from the city and home to a beautiful black sand beach. You can get in touch with the organization using the details below.

Soesokakk Rowing Boats

If you like the idea of water sports but not the idea of getting wet, then renting a rowing boat at Soesokkak Estuary is a good idea. Here, you can paddle up the entrance of Hyodoncheon River where it meets the sea.
The estuary is a picturesque spot with imposing cliffs, unique rock formations, and a pebble beach. The water itself is usually calm, so even beginners can enjoy paddling here.
As well as the kayaks, you can choose to take a group journey on a traditional Taewoo raft. This is suitable if you don’t feel like paddling a boat yourself but still want to experience the views.
While there are often queues to rent the kayaks, there is plenty nearby to enjoy, including cafes, restaurants, and walking along the beach and the river.
To rent a kayak or book a spot on the traditional raft, you need to buy a ticket from the Seosokkak ticket office. It is open from 9 a.m. until 30 minutes before sunset.

Parasailing with Jeju Jet

Parasailing is an activity where you get strapped to a parachute, tied to a boat, and then fly through the air as the wind from the boat pushes you upwards. It’s perhaps the most adrenaline-pumping activity on this list. However, anyone can try it out as the boat and parachute do all the hard work. Jeju Jet offers parasailing experiences out of an area called Daepo on the south side of Jeju near to Jungmun Beach. Each activity costs KRW 60,000 and lasts for 40 to 50 minutes. The company operates from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. The company also runs jet ski and jet boat experiences if that’s more your thing. Check them out using the link below.
