Saryeoni Forest Path is considered one of the 31 Hidden Gems of Jeju. Starting from Bijarim-ro, the trail is surrounded by a dense forest of cedar trees, winding near Mulchat Oreum and Saryeoni Oreum. It is called Saryeoni Forest Path because it extends all the way to Saryeoni Oreum.

“Saryeoni” can mean “sacred forest” or “to wind threads in a circle, without tangling.” Walking along this forest trail, you will be enveloped by the fragrant aroma of cedar. In addition to the dense cedars, a number of other tree species are also found here, such as jolcham oak, hornbeam, Japanese Snowbell, and cypress. The forest is also home to a wide variety of animals, including mammals such as badgers and Jeju weasels, birds such as fairy pittas and goshawks, and reptiles such as the Korean rat snake.

Saryeoni Forest Path remains largely pristine and untouched by human hands, making it a favorite of trekking enthusiasts. In 2002, UNESCO designated it as one of Jeju’s Biosphere Reserves. Mulchat Oreum is currently closed to visitors for conservation purposes, but it is occasionally opened temporarily for the “Saryeoni Forest Eco-Healing” event.

If you look up while walking along the Saryeoni Forest Trail, you will see the sunlight filtering through the branches of the tall cedars as they stretch toward the sky, with cool breezes flowing over the trail on even the hottest of summer days. It is an ideal place to breathe in the pristine Jeju air and rejuvenate your body and mind. If you are particularly interested in the dense cedar forest and red volcanic scoria, we recommend starting from the Bulgeun Oreum entrance rather than the Saryeoni entrance.
