VISIT JEJU

Cheongsu-ri is a quiet village famous for fireflies in Hangyeong-myeon. Its location on a hill gives the village a great view of Gotjawal, Jeju’s primeval forest. What would life be like in this village? If you don’t have the time to stay for a long time, how about staying here for a few days? cheongsu-got is a single-unit pension that just opened at the end of 2023.

Many pensions in Jeju offer single-units, but cheongsu-got has something that sets it apart from the rest. For starters, the interior feels like an art museum. Jeju’s characteristic stone fences surround the building, and the building itself looks like a free-standing volcanic cone made out of concrete.

When you park the car and enter the complex, the first thing you find is the courtyard. With every step you take, pebbles rustle under your feet, and green plants both large and small welcome you to this restful place. In the distance, you can see the Gotjawal Forest and the Hallasan Mountain, so the view itself is quite “healing” as Koreans say. Even the birds seem happy to see you here, singing from somewhere around the building.

cheongsu-got consists of two spaces: Bakgeori, or the outer building, is the space for guests, while the Angeori, or the inner building, is for the owner of the building. The buildings are separated by a wall in the inner courtyard and have separate entrances.

The guesthouse has the bedroom, bathroom, and jacuzzi on the first floor. The kitchen, living room, bathroom, and the outdoor pool are on the second floor. The third floor has additional bedrooms. The bedroom on the first floor is furnished in clean white and has windows that can be fully opened. With a view of green nature outside the window, the room feels somehow even more comfortable.

The jacuzzi is located outside the building. It is closed when it is not in use. Hot water is available at all times, so it is a great place to relax.

Follow the stairs next to the jacuzzi to find the second floor, which is even more comfortable. The beautiful view of Jeju will make you wish you could stay here longer.

The second floor is also decorated with white and has a living room and an outdoor pool. The kitchen and the living room have floors at different heights, so you can enjoy the scenery to the fullest. The outdoor pool also has 24-hour hot water and has a swimming ring. A photo taken here includes the Hallasan Mountain in the frame. In cheongsu-got, even the outdoor pool is a backdrop for your photo of the day.

Note that Cheongsu-dong is a very quiet neighborhood, so you will need to be aware of noise after 8:00 p.m. Also, due to its proximity to nature, insects may enter the house. While cheongsu-got does its best to prevent the influx of insects, it is good to keep this in mind.
