In Jeju, near the old city center, there is a restaurant that serves excellent food at affordable prices for lunch and dinner:
“Sanrahan”, a Jeju-style gwegi (meat) restaurant, whose name comes from reversing the name of Hallasan Mountain.
It is quite a simple name, but there is something quite catchy about it.
In this era of cost-of-living crisis, this restaurant serves nearly 20 dishes as a Korean buffet for only KRW 8,000 for lunch.
Another option is the lunch box, which includes more than 10 side dishes, soup, and vegetable wraps.
Side dishes include Jeju-style seafood ramyeon, kimchi and sausage jjigae, and red crab and soybean paste jjigae.
A lunch at this price in this day and age, offering such a wide variety of dishes, all prepared with care and love: Is it any wonder that Sanrahan’s lunch buffet has a huge following?
Sanrahan’s lunch menu is updated daily via their Instagram Stories.
The list of dishes served changes daily, so there’s no need to worry about getting bored with Sanrahan’s menu items.
If you come to Sanrahan at lunchtime, you can simply pay for the lunch buffet at the on-site kiosk and enter.
The restaurant is run on a self-service basis for lunch.

For dinner, the restaurant serves changdoreum (grilled pork tripe in Jeju dialect), grilled pork, and spicy marinated grilled pork (cut extra chunky). Main dishes include red chili and soybean paste jjigae with beef (a soup made with beef brisket broth flavored with red chili and soybean paste jjigae from a famous restaurant in Ulsan), black pork and soft bean curd jjigae, cold meat noodles, and spicy buckwheat noodles with salted octopus.
Gomakjang is Sanrahan’s special sauce for its grilled pork tripe, a sauce made with soybean paste and bracken.
You can also enjoy your grilled pork tripe with Jeju barley sprout salt.
Side dishes include mini steamed eggs and charcoal-grilled syrup pancakes.
When you order grilled meat for dinner, you get free access to a self-service condiment bar.
The salted leaf mustard goes especially well with meat, thanks to the addition of wasabi, which makes it even hotter.
Sanrahan has spent a lot of time creating the perfect grilled tripe, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
All grilled meat items are sourced from Jeju.
As with the lunch menu, Sanrahan’s dinner menu items are reasonably priced and come with large portions.
The table situation is quite similar to most other grill restaurants, with both indoor and outdoor seating.
In some ways, Sanrahan’s menu is nothing special. But there is nothing ordinary about the taste and price of the dishes Sanrahan serves.
It is truly a place where you can stop by and enjoy a good meal, whether it is for lunch or dinner.
