Nowadays, Jeju has become a new paradise for foodies. Visitors can indulge in various world cuisine from traditional dishes to casual fusion food. While exploring attractions in Jeju, you can taste food from all over the world, such as Indian curry, Hawaiian seafood, homemade-style dishes of China and the U.S., and even food from the Middle East.
On a seaside hill that faces the Seongsan Ilchulbong stands an eye-catching pink building, home to the exotic Hawaiian seafood and lobster restaurant Cocomama.
Behind the front door, the background quickly changes from Jeju Island to a tropical southern paradise. A surfboard is leaning against the wall painted with palm trees, with the blue sea rolling outside the window. Green tropical plants, dolls made of coconuts, the swaying shell mobile, and merry tunes... Everything in this restaurant makes you question if you’re in Hawaii rather than Jeju. There is no sand on the floor, but everything else looks like a picture perfect vacation in a tropical paradise. The only thing that reminds you that you’re in Jeju is the view to the Seongsan Ilchulbong outside the window.
Cocomama’s signature menu is the Hawaiian Sea Food. A plate of roasted mussels and scallops topped with cheese is just the beginning. It’s followed by a hearty portion of fried shrimp, squid, and a whole crab. Then, the feast continues with big grilled skewers and spicy and sour stir-fried rice served in pineapples. If you’re keen on exploring further, add a lobster to the plate and you’ll be eating like a king! All lobsters at Cocomama are sourced from the mainland and served at a reasonable price. Best of all, the quality is superb! Lobsters are taken fresh out of the fish tank and cooked to order This ensures the fresh, elastic texture and fullness of their flesh. Also, Cocomama’s juice, made from a whole ground mango and pineapple, is known for its magic in restoring everyone’s appetite.
Another tip for having fun at Cocomama: take some snapshots wearing the cute crab hat and crab gloves at the restaurant. Also make sure to get your small exotic shell bracelet or key holder as a gift from the South from the owner.

If you’re traveling in Jeju City’s old city center, make sure to visit the Wardah Restaurant, which is led by a Yemeni refugee chef. Here, visitors can taste Middle Eastern food -- a rather rare option in Korea. Its exotic halal food and distinctive taste has made this place a popular restaurant among foreigners and locals alike.
Wardah Restaurant offers typical Middle Eastern halal food such as Kabsa, flat bread, falafel, and hummus. The menu provides pictures and brief descriptions about each dish so that even first-timers can easily make their choice. The Kabsa is a rice-based dish popular in the Arabian region. This stir-fried rice menu cooked with meat, vegetables, and Arabian spice is similar to the Korean version of stir-fried rice. Customers have a choice between chicken and lamb. Try enhancing the taste by adding the provided tomato sauce! Falafels are fried dough balls made with chopped garlic, onion, and coriander leaves. Wrap it with the flat bread (bread baked flat, just like the Indian naan) and try eating it like a sandwich.
If you’re keen on exploring a more exotic flavor, try the uniquely sour and light hummus, which is a traditional Middle Eastern specialty made with mashed chickpeas. The kebab is a sort of Middle Eastern sandwich, consisting of many layers of shawarma and chicken in between. Made on the spot by wrapping fresh vegetables with shawarma, Wardah’s kebab is addictively delicious.

Roy and May is a home style Chinese restaurant located not far from Seopjikoji Beach. It is run by a Chinese husband and Korean wife who found each other when studying in London. Roy hopes to share his favorite food from his childhood in this restaurant, and May says she just loves Roy’s cooking. The Taproom3029, which offers American Southern home style food, is located on the roadside of Route 1100 that leads to the old city center of Jeju City. Inside its chic building, exotic menus such as the Louisiana Boiling Crab and Jambalaya Sea Food Rice attract gourmets and foodies alike.
The Boiling Crab is literally a Southern seafood dish where crab, shrimp, and crayfish are boiled and served. The Louisiana Boiling Crab made with spicy Cajun sauce is internationally known for its delicious taste. The Cajun sauce is Louisiana’s signature sauce made with onion, pepper, and mustard. Taproom3029 uses house-made Cajun sauce. Boiling Crab is made by mixing boiled ingredients in an aged sauce, and then stir-frying it all one more time in a buttered frying pan. This allows the ingredients to be seasoned properly and create its characteristic deep, concentrated flavor. The lobsters and shrimps piled up on the plate seem to go on forever.
Jambalaya is a nostalgic dish that was created by deported French and Spanish settlers in the 18th century while trying to make their traditional Paella. Taproom3029’s Jambalaya has a spicy flavor because of the added Cajun sauce. The Giant Meatball Pasta, which includes meatballs filled with cheese, and the sweet Braised Baby Back Rib roasted directly on the fire are also tantalizing, popular options. A glass of microbrew beer or wine is the perfect finish. If you’re in the mood, play a game at the billiard table at the center of the restaurant.

There is a famous Indian restaurant in a secluded western Jeju village that is visited by many foreign travelers. The Indian Kitchen is run by a Nepali owner and chef. This is one of the few places in Jeju where you can enjoy authentic Indian food. India and Nepal have the same food culture, and many famous Indian cuisine chefs are actually from Nepal.
Passing by a well-cared garden and entering a reddish-brown brick building, you can tell that you’re in the right place from the delicate smell of spices. In contrast to the neat exterior, the inside looks rather colorful and fancy. Large jars with green leaves dropping from them, shiny floors, and colored lights hanging from high ceilings create an exotic atmosphere. The colorful table setting also adds to the excitement. In contrast, soft Indian-style music creates a mellow mood while you want to be taken to your seat.
Indian Kitchen serves traditional Indian curry made with tomato and onion sauce instead of water. The shrimp curries, in particular, are so popular that they are considered the signature dish here. The combination of intense, savory curry and chewy naan creates the best flavor ever. The grilled lamb chops are also a must-try dish at Indian Kitchen. Those who taste this roasted tandoori lamb marinated in traditional Indian spice will become converts to lamb meat if they weren’t already. The smooth texture and light flavor of this dish never fails to please -- those who tried it know! If you like Indian spices, try Biriani, the Indian stir-fried rice. You can taste original Biriani cooked in authentic Indian way. Don’t hesitate to add a sweet and sour Lassi and enjoy the inimitable flavor.
