Marado Island is South Korea’s southernmost region and a very popular locale for visitors. Marado also has a reputation as an excellent place to eat black bean noodles, or jajangmyeon mixed with fresh seafood, in particular with locally sourced sea algae, called tot (톳).

1. Marado Haenyeo Village Jjajang

You can’t miss this first restaurant, as it is right at the start of the Black Road. The natural flavor and texture of the sea algae (tot) blends well with the black bean sauce and noodles. There’s also a convenience store there if you want to pick up some snacks for your trip back to Jeju.

This restaurant stands out with its healthy and tasty tot (sea algae) noodles. Compared with flour noodles, these noodles maintain their texture better.

3. Jjajangmyeon Sikisinbun

The special characteristic of Marado Jajangmyeon is the addition of tot (sea algae) as a main ingredient. The so-called “herb of the sea” is in season between spring and early summer. This restaurant offers up a harmony of flavors of the sea and the black bean.

5. Original Marado Jajangmyeon

The Original Marado Jajangmyeon was the first Jajangmyeon restaurant in Marado. The restaurant has appeared on many TV programs including “Infinite Challenge,” which has made it a popular spot for many tourists from across Korea.

7. The Sea and Jjajang

You can enjoy the special balance of seafood and onion as they combine in this meal. When mussels are in season, they are added to the menu, as are shrimp. After your meal, you can explore the nearby octagonal pavilion and take some classic Marado photos there.

8. Seobadang Sikdang

This relatively new establishment opened two years ago, though it was first a guest house from 2003, so the proprietor is not a newcomer to Marado. The ingredients they use include mussels, shrimp, and red sea cucumber.

9. Cheolgabangeul Deun Haenyeo

The owner of this restaurant has established its fame by serving up the freshest of ingredients. It is located right next to Korea’s southernmost Buddhist temple of Giwonjeongsa.

10. Paldo Sikdang

This is the southernmost noodle restaurant in Korea. It is also the first restaurant you’ll see if you take the path from the port that heads towards Marado Lighthouse. Its representative seafood jjajang includes tot, octopus, and conch. The restaurant is located close to the sea, so you can enjoy your meal and the view together.
