    It’s not just the airport that has luxury items on sale

    The pleasure of traveling includes relaxing, but also shopping! Jeju Island, in particular, has the advantage of offering visitors the chance to purchase duty-free items at a number of shops around the island. These in turn are attracting attention to Jeju as a great domestic travel destination. Instead of having to do all your duty free shopping at a harried pace at the airport, why not slow down and enjoy the experience at one of the island’s duty free shops. The Jeju Duty Free Shop on the first floor of the International Convention Center Jeju in Jungmun has some great discounts and event on now through mid-August. Night shopping at the shop is possible until 9 p.m. through Aug. 15. Also through Aug. 15, there are 10% to 15% discounts on select items, and the more you shop, the more you save with these great offers.     HamChef Kitchen



    Located just a 1-kilometer, 3-minute drive from the Jeju Duty Free Shop in Jungmun, this restaurant is run by a Shilla Hotel chef who opens his door (and kitchen) to the public. His wide range of dishes span the gamut, from fresh salads to pasta, rice, steak dinners and even spicy octopus jjambbong soup. One popular item is the mushroom shrimp cream risotto with cheese and shellfish. With a philosophy of healthy, fresh ingredients, the chef’s satisfied customers keep coming back. Complimentary coffee is served at the end of the meal.

    A healthy cafe with a view

    Cafe Seren di



    A healthy concept café that stands out with its organic bagels is about a 7-minute drive from the Jeju Duty Free Shop. You can add blueberry or grain cream cheese to your organic bagel, which is made without using eggs, butter, sugar, milk or yeast. The avocado bagel is a light, cheesy avocado and red pepper combo, while the Jeju Cheonhyehyang citrus bagel is remarkably sweet. Drinks include a red beet, apple and pineapple juice, a kale/celery juice, and more. From the second floor there is a pleasant view of the palm trees planted outside… which give the place an exotic, foreign feel.

    Everything banana milk related

    Yellow Cafe



    This Jungmun cafe is all about banana-flavored milk and items like ice cream shakes that use that ingredient. It is the flagship store for Binggrae banana flavored milk, a brand with a history of over 40 years. The cafe is about a 5-minute drive from Jungmun Duty Free Shop. As the main theme and ingredient is banana-flavored milk, the cafe, as you might have guessed, is yellow, as are most of the items therein such as tables and chairs. It’s a family-oriented, tourist-friendly operation which is perfect for traveler photo-ops. Yellow Cafe also sells banana milk-related souvenirs.

    A quintessential Jungmun outdoor lounge bar

    Vadada



    Located on the coast near the International Convention Center Jeju, Vadada is a cafe and lounge overlooking the sea, as its name suggests. If you look at the sea while lying out in the sunshine on one of the outdoor sunbeds, you will feel as though the rhythmic ocean waves are transporting you to some exotic foreign resort. The lounge features dance music popular with the younger generation which adds to the pleasant, upbeat feeling of this unique Jungmun locale. You can order wine and beer, cocktails and other beverages, and there is a basic food menu available that serves things like thick, fusion shrimp burgers.

    The genuine taste of a local craft beer

    Jeju Jungmun Suje Beer



    This craft beer operation is run by two siblings and beer specialists. Their craft beer is reminiscent of such craft beers you’ll find at The Hand & Malt, which is the representative brand of craft beer in Korea, and Jeju’s-own Magpie craft beer. The food menu also features a number of prominent Jeju ingredients in its dishes, like grilled Chagwido Island squid, homemade potato fries from Gujwa-eup, and Jeju black pork sausage.

    Monkey Beach



    A Jungmun club where foreigners can experience a uniquely exotic atmosphere. Darts, pool, shuffleboard and more are on offer in the large basement area. If you need a break from your travels, you can relax as much as you like here. Hours are from 8:30 p.m. to  5 a.m.
