Pretty much any direction you take out of Jeju City and into the island’s countryside, you’ll soon encounter cafes. With this many choices, Jeju cafes have had to keep up with all the latest tastes and trends of their customers. The Smiler Cafe in Hagwi 1-ri, Aewol-eup, is a just such a specialist: in this case, a cafe featuring a variety of domesticated and not-so-domestic animals. Dogs, cats, rabbits, parrots, reptiles, tropical fish and turtles all live on the premises. There is no admission fee to Smiler Cafe, which is good news for parents. Children can benefit from this petting zoo set-up, including watching the animals at feeding time (which is always a big hit!) The adults, meanwhile, can have a freshly brewed cup of coffee and chat among themselves while watching over their kids who — as it happens — are similarly interacting with the cafe’s animals.

Just 20 minutes southeast of Jeju City, the image of this green pasture will bring a smile to your face. Just a few steps through the entrance to the ranch and the view of a wide grassland opens up, filling the horizon with an undulating, verdant vista. In the morning, the dairy cows and cattle go about their business and visitors make the most of the view and the free admission to take a variety of photos in this natural, picturesque “photo zone.”  As for the experience part of the farm program, children can feed hay to the cows and pet the animals. They can also try truly farm fresh dairy products made from Morning Smile-produced milk. The whole family can really benefit from a day enjoying the quiet, clean nature of this quintessential working Jeju farm.

Hueree Natural Park is the perfect place to enjoy Jeju nature in all its forms — both plant and animal.
