As oreum are located in mountainous areas, many of them may not appear accurately on GPS navigation systems, and a large number lack parking facilities. In addition, some oreum are located on private land, with access restricted or prohibited entirely. Please check the latest information with the Jeju Tourism Information Center (064-740-6000) before attempting to visit an oreum.
Located in Gujwa-eup, Yongnuni Oreum stands at 247.8m above sea level, with a relative height of 88m compared to the surrounding area and a circumference of 2,685m. It is unique among the 360 oreum found on Jeju Island in that it alone has three distinct craters. The appearance of the oreum varies with the changing seasons, covered with green grass in spring and summer and silver grass in autumn and winter, and its gentle ridgelines make it a popular subject for photographers. The name “Yongnuni” is thought to mean “dragon lying down,” as the hollow center resembles a place where a dragon once lay down or played, or “dragon’s eye,” as the craters resemble the eyes of a dragon when viewed from above.

The gentle slopes and short trail of Yongnuni Oreum make it easy for anyone to reach the summit, regardless of age or fitness level. The walk takes about an hour and requires little effort, perfect for a relaxed summer stroll. The lush green grass and horses grazing amidst the cool breeze, and the views of far-off Seongsan Ilchulbong and Udo make this an ideal spot to create lasting summer memories. Many couples visit to take wedding photos against the backdrop of the blooming silver grass in autumn. Beautiful Yongnuni Oreum offers a different facet in every season, making it an ideal spot to take a light walk immersed in the nature of Jeju.
