Located in Sangga-ri, Aewol-eup, Jeju City, Sanggari Palm Forest is a great place to take pictures.
Once a farm where palm trees were grown, Sanggari Palm Forest has become a popular tourist site in the area.
First, be sure to pin the address for the Fruit Sorting Center of the Sangga-ri Tangerine Export Complex, as the forest doesn’t appear easily on map services.
Once you’re in the area, finding it is easy thanks to the lush pine forest that stands out in the landscape.
The parking lot is also quite notable.
You can park under a large palm tree that offers plenty of shade.
Palm forests of this size are very rare in Korea, making the entrance fee worth it.
At Sanggari Palm Forest, you can enjoy free amenities like umbrellas, tripods, walking sticks, coffee, tea, and more.
The forest is full of great photo spots, so if you didn’t bring a tripod, renting one at the ticket booth might be a good idea.

This forest was established in 1953 by the father of the current owner, who was the first to bring palm tree seeds and seedlings to Korea.
Initially, he faced significant challenges in adapting the palm trees to Jeju’s soil. However, after extensive research, he succeeded in spreading the palm trees across the island.
The trees were relocated to their current site about 20 years ago.
With most of the trees now between 30 to 70 years old, this palm forest is often regarded as the most impressive in Korea.
While exploring, you might come across a sign that reads, “Thank you for being here, seventy-year-old Canary Island date palm”.
Here you will find various types of palm trees, creating a unique sight in Korea.
Some of the palm trees are very rare.
You will also see a variety of flowers and photo spots scattered around the area.
And of course, you’re welcome to take pictures anywhere you like.
The owner’s decision to place chairs, garlands, and other interesting props throughout the area is a nice touch.
There is an amazing variety of props, from the iconic Dol Hareubang statues to penguins and red telephone kiosks.
While many of the trees are tall, some are still young and growing.
Overall, it’s a great spot to unwind.
The paths are gravel, but since the terrain is mostly flat, it’s easy to navigate with strollers and wheelchairs.
Sanggari Palm Forest is a peaceful retreat for everyone, whether you’re visiting alone, with friends, family, or a partner.
It is a great place for taking pictures, enjoying long walks, or simply being surrounded by nature.
Locals describe it as “kkodak kkodak”, a place where you can relax and take your time, without any rush.
Nearby tourist attractions include Gonae Port and the Handam Coastal Walk.
Naver offers several package deals that include entry to Sanggari Palm Forest and other nearby sites, so might want to consider those if you’re planning a visit.
