Despite its name, Nohyung Supermarket doesn’t handle foodstuffs: it’s a media art exhibition that unveils a unique world.
Here’s the premise: A lost door connects our world with another. In 1981, this unstable door opens within Nohyung Supermarket, drawing in all the colors of Jeju. As the door’s power intensifies, the Supermarket itself fades, losing its colors. Yet, some sections have absorbed the hues passing through, resulting in mysterious and surreal imagery.

The second theme of the exhibition is ‘Berong Berong, where colors collected by the door gather in vivid displays. Step past the lights to “Mungte Cloud,” where lights flicker in the fog, creating the perfect spot for dreamy silhouette photos. Finally, you arrive at “Warang Warang,” where colors merge to fill the mysterious space with brilliant light. This is the heart of Nohyung Supermarket and its inner world. Themes shift seamlessly, unveiling majestic views throughout the space. The interior features eight videos inspired by waterfalls and columnar joint formations, casting the exhibition hall in brilliant, awe-aspiring colors and creating an immersive spectacle. The final section, ‘Gopulak,’ offers photo areas themed after bamboo forests, silver grass fields, and a mystical space illuminated by starlight.

After the exhibition closes, Nohyung Supermarket transforms its large interior space for a nighttime program featuring a new media musical. For an additional KRW 8,000, you can enjoy this performance - a contemporary reinterpretation of Woncheongang Bonpuri, a shamanistic myth traditionally performed in Jeju. The musical unfolds on a moving stage, combining dazzling media art with powerful acting. If you’re looking for a unique theater experience infused with media art in Jeju, be sure to visit Nohyung Supermarket.
