Jeju City: Jejudo Island's Main Urban Area
Jeju-si is the main city of Jejudo Island.
The city has both Jeju International Airport and Jeju Port, ensuring that transportation is easily accessible.
Preserved within the old city (Gujeju) are Samseonghyeol Shrine, which shows the roots of Jeju’s people, Gwandeokjeong Hall, a former district office, a Confucian school , and the fortress walls.
In the past, Jejudo Island was an independent kingdom known as the Tamna Kingdom. Samseonghyeol Shrine, where the ‘Goh Clan, Yang Clan, and Bu Clan’, the progenitors of Jeju, are said to have sprouted up from the ground, Jeju’s largest traditional market, and other sites that offer a glimpse into the history of Jeju and the vibrant lives of its residents can all be found within Jeju-si.
